DESCRIPTION:   Develops, designs and details mechanical products out of sheet metal, structural steel and related materials.  Creates detailed drawings of products, indicating dimensions and tolerances, fasteners and joining requirements, and other design data.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Confers with GSM Field Account Rep, customers, sales department and/or production personnel to establish and evaluate design concepts for customer- requested products.
  • Makes job site visits, collects field measurements and creates detailed drawings of products.
  • Presents designs to sales department and/or customers for approval and/or discusses need for modification.
  • Computes mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery.
  • Prepares detailed working drawings of products including dimensions, fastening methods, functional relationships of components, and other design information using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • When customer or engineering drawings are supplied, will assess drawings and detail them to shop standards.
  • Creates detailed part cut lists and material requisition documents.
  • Manages purchasing process of materials and commercial items.
  • Programs parts for CNC plasma cutting and drilling equipment.
  • Supplies production with necessary drawings, specifications and information to fabricate product(s).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three+ years’ experience in industrial equipment installation and/or industrial mechanical contracting – including industrial ductwork, access work or similar.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles necessary to produce effective blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of design concepts to create various industrial products and systems.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and their applications.
  • Ability to analyze and visualize needs and requirements to create an effective design.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify problems and determine resolutions.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2-D is essential; 3-D and SolidWorks are desirable.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to field measure.
  • The ability to change gears during the course of a workday is essential.
